What is Dabbing?
Dabbing is a method used to consume cannabis concentrates. When you dab, you use a device to heat the concentrate and inhale the vapor to feel the effects. During processing, the cannabinoids and terpenes are separated from the non-essential parts of the plant to pack a powerful punch. The rigs work similarly to bongs but are designed for concentrates instead of flower. Dabbing appeals to those who have tried weed in the past and want a faster, more intense effect. Dabbing also can offer a more flavorful experience since many concentrates preserve the terpenes. Terpenes like myrcene and limonene will increase the weed’s scent, flavor, and effects. Dabbing also helps medical users find quick relief without needing a large amount of cannabis.
What is 710?
710 celebrations launched around 2011 through online forums that rapper Taskrok participated in. He suggested the event as a way to add more cannabis-themed holidays to the calendar. He even created songs about concentrates like “7:10” and “Boil That Oil.” It is believed 710 was chosen for the holiday since it reads the word “oil” when upside down.
The Ins and Outs of Dabs and Concentrates

- Cold-cured rosins: These are a type of concentrate made without any solvents. The rosin is extracted through heat and pressure before being cured at a low temperature.
- Batters: Also called budders, batters are made with solvents before undergoing blending to achieve a whipped texture.
- Sugars: Sugars use solvents in processing and rely on butane or propane to remove the cannabinoids. Sugars have a semi-solid appearance, and crystals will appear in the formulation.
- Live resins: These concentrates come from fresh flower that are flash-frozen to lock in flavors and terpenes. Live resins don’t use solvents to separate the cannabinoids.
- Hashes: Hash is created through ice-water extraction and has a powdery texture.
- Sauces: With an oil-like texture, sauces have high terpenes and strong flavor profiles.
The majority of people dab with a dab rig. As an alternative, you can use an e-rig or dab pen. With a traditional dab rig, you’ll heat a quartz banger with a torch and then drop in a “dab” of concentrate before inhaling the vapor through the water pipe. An electronic dab rig controls the temperature automatically without the need for a torch. Heating to a higher temperature has intense effects but can degrade the concentrate quickly. When a low-temperature setting is used, hits are smooth, and terpenes won’t get burned off.
